Sports Director

As Sports Director, you will manage, plan, and supervise the Sports program area and facilities during summer camp. This position requires a background in general athletics, sports, leadership skills, and creating a positive and inclusive environment for participants of all ages.

Responsibilities and Duties

– Oversee the operation of the Sports Program Area.
– Provide positive training for Scouts, adult leaders, and Staff in the Sports Area.
– Responsible for the general program planning and management of the Sports Area, including integration with the total camp program.
– Maintain proper BSA standards for instruction, supervision, and safety training in the program.
– Provide program instruction for unit leaders and camp staff.
– Operate a camp program in such a manner as to ensure instruction in the following: ability testing of all – Scouts and adults, proper use and handling of equipment.
– Serve as a merit badge counselor.
– Ensure the program area is used only when qualified supervision is present. Staff members may not use the area without qualified supervision.
– Follow all Youth Protection Guidelines and the Guide to Safe Scouting.
– Be an enthusiastic key leader of the camp staff – work closely with the Camp Director and other key leaders to provide positive staff leadership.
– Attend Area Directors meetings.
– Responsible for opening and closing inventories of all equipment. This should include an end-of-year report.
Other duties as assigned by the Camp Director or Program Director

Qualifications

– High School Diploma or GED.
– Experience working with youth.
– 18 years of age or older.
– Successful completion of a criminal background check.
– Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
– Able to sit or stand for long periods and climb multiple flights of stairs daily.
– Ability to bend, twist, and stretch.
– Exceptional communication skills.
– Self-motivated with the ability to efficiently work independently with little instruction or supervision.
– Desire to lead, motivate, and manage groups of varying ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
– Demonstrated ability to manage logistics in an organized fashion.
– Willingness to be flexible with work assignments and roles.
