Aquatics/Waterfront Area Director

Qualifications:

Ø  Be at least 21-years old or older as a mature, responsible adult.

Ø  Previous Scout or youth camp leadership experience necessary, with the ability to manage a program area staff of 6-8 people required.

Ø  Have previous experience and a working knowledge of all Scouting America-approved aquatics and boating programs and their related merit badge subjects.

Ø  Have the experience to lead and teach swimming and watercraft safety skills, and the mature personality and calm ability to counsel and encourage Scout youth and leaders when necessary.

Ø  Hold a current training certificate from the Scouting America National Camping School as a certified Aquatics Director, or current certification from the American Red Cross as a Water Safety Instructor and a Lifeguard Instructor (a dual-training certificate).

Ø  Must have current certification in American Red Cross or National Safety Council First-Aid & CPR for the Professional Rescuer.

Ø  Be currently-registered with a local Council of Scouting America, or be willing to become a registered Camp Staff member of the Marin Council at Camp Marin-Sierra.

Responsibilities:

Ø  Report directly to the Camp Program Director and Resident Camp Director.

Ø  Train and supervise all Waterfront Program Area staff and oversee teaching of all related aquatics merit badge subjects.

Ø  Oversee the scheduling and delivery of Merit Badge classes to ensure a quality, safe and fun program available to all Scout youth campers.

Ø  Maintain the Chubb Lake Waterfront area as a teaching aid central to supporting the outdoor program experience of Scout youth and unit-leader Campers.

Ø  Must live on-site and hold no other jobs or responsibilities for the duration of the Summer season.

Position Description:

a)    Supervises the operations of all assigned Aquatics/ Waterfront Program area staff and ensures their respective assignments are organized, maintained, and operated in accordance with Scouting America standards.

b)    Operate a quality, safe, and fun Aquatics program and ensure this is well-balanced and integrated into the general Camp Program strategy and schedule.

c)     Perform or oversee standardized swim checks for every Camper per weekly camp session.

d)    Oversee the Aquatics Program Area staff and lesson plans for area-specific merit badge classes.

e)    Operate a recreational program of open swimming and boating, and provide every non-swimmer an opportunity to learn to swim and/or boat.

f)      Share daily announcements with the Camp Program Director, other Camp Staff members, and all campers concerning the various Aquatics/Waterfront area programs and activities available.

g)    Conduct Scouting America’s Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat trainings for adults during each weekly camp session.

h)    Offer and lead the advanced BSA Aquatics Supervision Swimming & Water Rescue class for adult leaders and Scouts over the age of 15.

i)      Supervise the use of and maintain the inventory of program supplies, other camp materials and all Aquatics/Waterfront area equipment.

j)      Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Camp Program Director or Resident Camp Director.

k)     By upholding the Scout Oath & Law, and the Aims & Methods of Scouting, be a positive example to all others in dress, speech, and actions.
