Position Overview:

Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, the Goshen Scout Reservation is home to 5 resident (overnight) summer camps; 3 Scouts BSA (serving youth ages 11 – 18), 1 Webelos and Arrow of Light (serving youth ages 9 – 11), and 1 High Adventure Base (serving youth ages 13 – 20). Goshen Scout Reservation’s mission is to provide exceptional outdoor program opportunities for all members of the scouting community, and in doing so, will attract the very best camp staff and organize world class programs that always exceed our customer’s expectations.

The Retail Director is responsible to the Assistant Reservation Director for the coordination and operation of the Goshen Scout Reservation Retail Operations and Trading Posts in accordance with the policies and standards of Scouting America and National Capital Area Council (NCAC).

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee operations of six Goshen Scout Reservation trading posts, including sales, customer service, and inventory management.
  • Partner with the Reservation Director to manage the selection of pricing and display of merchandise, ensuring the trading posts are well stocked and appealing.
  • Train and supervise trading post staff, providing guidance in retail operations and customer service.
  • Maintain accurate financial records, including sales tracking, cash handling, and budget management utilizing the Clover POS system.
  • Work with warehouse staff and trading post managers to identify, package and distribute merchandise to trading posts stores.
  • Manage retail finances, including trading post tills and petty cash for the reservation in collaboration with the Reservation Director. Make weekly bank deposits on a schedule determined with the Reservation Director.
  • Work in cooperation with the Reservation Director and Warehouse Manager in ordering and maintaining stocked inventory of consumables and non-consumable merchandise. Provide the Reservation Director with timely order requests for merchandise and supplies.
  • Implement effective merchandising and promotional strategies to maximize sales.
  • Check and verify working conditions of NCAC owned and rented equipment including Pepsi and Hershey coolers and slushie machines. Schedule services as needed.
  • Ensure the trading posts adhere to all camp policies and health regulations as outlined by Scouting America and the state of Virginia.
  • Handle customer inquiries and resolve any issues or complaints.
    Support overall operations of Goshen Scout Reservation and Scouting America National Capital Area Council.
  • Submit an end of year report, including a closing inventory and recommendations for the following year to the Reservation Director.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Time Commitment:

The onsite management of the Goshen Scout Reservation Retail Operations will be from June 7 – August 6, 2025, based on registration.

Education:

High school diploma, GED, or equivalency preferred.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be able to register as a member of Scouting America and submit to a background check. Must complete all Youth Protection Training courses and adhere to incident reporting guidelines.
  • Must have a working vehicle and have a valid driver’s license. Fuel will be provided for camp required usage of vehicle.
  • The position requires living onsite for the duration of the summer camping season. Housing is provided in the form of a shared cabin. Most meals are provided during the duration of the summer camp.

Benefits:

The employee will be paid a seasonal salary starting at $600.00 per week for the duration of the summer season. All room and board that is provided is in addition to this salary. Compensation includes all pre-season preparation and post season closing reports, including all training that may be necessary for the successful execution of the position. This position is exempt from the minimum wage-maximum hours provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
