Camp William B Snyder Summer Program Director (Seasonal)

Position Overview:
The Program Director is responsible to the Camp Director for the coordination and operation of all camp programs and activities, in accordance with the policies and standards of Scouting America and National Capital Area Council (NCAC). They provide leadership to approximately 30 seasonal staff members to deliver programs to units – youth members and their adult leadership.
Responsibilities:
- Direct and/or coordinate operation of camp programs including:
- Instructional programs (programs and activities under Area Directors)
- Recreational activities (camp wide games and programs)
- Inspirational activities (flag ceremonies, opening and closing campfires)
- Be familiar with the operation of all programs, advancement, and program activities.
- Work closely with the Camp Director on all matters. Work collaboratively with the Commissioner team, Area Directors, and other camp staff.
- Oversee the overall camp program and develop the weekly camp schedule
- Become familiar with Scouting America National Camp Standards (for Resident long-term camps) and assist the Camp Director in ensuring compliance in all Program areas.
- Assist Area Directors in the development and implementation of camp programs and goals.
- Assist Area Directors with use of record-keeping practices in a timely manner.
- Assist Camp Director in staff training. Assist in development of a written training plan in compliance with National Camp Standards. Obtain all personal training required. Abide by the rules set forth in the most current “Camp Staff Guide”.
- Assist the Camp Director in camp staff hiring.
- Assist the Camp Director in staff and program training.
- Other duties as assigned by the Camp Director.
Time Commitment:
- Take part in staff interviews, local training, monthly Camp Director Meetings, and general planning that will average 8-10 hours per week.
- Attend and complete National Camping School Training, a week-long training course held in Spring 2026, prior to the start of the summer season.
- The onsite management of a resident Summer Camp will be from June 12 – August 5, 2026, based on camp assignment and camper registration.
Relationships:
The Program Director reports to the Camp Director and will work collaboratively with individuals and groups including, but not limited to, the camp administration, retail staff, medical personnel, food service and kitchen staff, camp staff, scout volunteers, and parents.
Requirements:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must be able to register as a member of Scouting America and submit to a background check. Must complete all Youth Protection Training courses and adhere to incident reporting guidelines.
- Must hold or be willing to obtain a Resident Program Director certification from the National Camping School, a week-long training course, prior to the start of the summer season. Multiple locations/dates are available to choose from. The cost of training and travel/lodging will be covered by NCAC.
- The position requires living onsite for the duration of the summer camping season. Housing is provided in dorm style setting. Most meals are provided during the duration of the summer camp.
