Climbing Area Director

Position: Climbing Area Director – Camp Parson, Chief Seattle Council

Overview: Camp Parsons is a 400 acre Scout camp that serves boys and girls in
ages 11-17 located in rural Brinnon, WA on the Olympic Peninsula. Camp Parsons provides world-class experiences for youth in many areas including aquatics, boating, crafts, nature, outdoor skills, climbing and shooting sports. Campers and staff members come from across the country to attend Camp Parsons summer programs.  Founded in 1919 Camp Parsons is among the oldest Scout Camps in the Country and has been continually operating on our original site since our founding, this summer we celebrate our 105th Anniversary.  Each summer we serve over 2,500 guests during our season.

Position Summary:

The Climbing Director is responsible for overseeing and leading the camp’s Climbing Program and Staff.

Job Description:

Dates of employment are June 19 through September 3, 2024. (Can be flexible on End Date)

Qualifications and Requirements:

-Is at least 21 Years old and has completed National Camp School COPE/Climbing Section (Council Paid for)

-Is a registered member of the Chief Seattle Council, Boy Scouts of America

-Possesses a valid certificate of completion for basic Youth Protection training

-Has received Unlawful Harassment Prevention training

-Has read and agreed to the Scouter Code of Conduct

-Must complete Understanding and Prevention of Youth-on-Youth Abuse for Camp Staff training (provided during staff week)

-Must complete Weather Hazard training

-Has the physical endurance to lead and participate in climbing activities and has the physical ability to recognize and act quickly in emergencies.

-Can communicate clearly, both written and orally.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

-Oversee and manager the tower crew.

-Instruct in Climbing Tower activities and merit badges.

-Keep accurate records of merit badge class attendance and completion of requirements.

– Be familiar with and oversee the enforcement of all safety rules and policies for the tower.

-Always maintain strict safety discipline when campers, leaders, and other staff are in the tower area.

-Be familiar with camp and tower-specific emergency procedures.  Follow these procedures in emergencies and participate in drills.

– Oversee the proper care, usage, and maintenance of all climbing equipment.

-Oversee all climbing programs as directed.

-Participate in camp wide activities.

-Oversee the set-up and takedown of the tower and other campsite facilities.

-Deliver a fun, safe, and age-appropriate program for campers.

-All other duties as assigned

-The nature of the position requires standing, and lifting objects up to 50 lbs.

Pay and Benefits:

·               Salary Range: $42.85 per day – $71.42 per day (7 Day work week)

·               Onsite Housing with Private Bedroom with shared common spaces during duration of employment
