COPE/Climbing Assistant Director

Objective: To assure that Project C.O.P.E. participants have a safe and fulfilling experience in the program and the safe operation of the climbing tower, C.O.P.E. area, and Aerial Adventure Park.

Requirements for hire: Holds a Level I Instructor certification for C.O.P.E. or climbing. * Must be in good standing with the Boy Scouts of America, Conquistador Council, and Wehinahpay Mountain Camp.

Preferences for hire: Holds a Level II Instructor certification for C.O.P.E. Previous climbing and C.O.P.E. experience.

 

Specific responsibilities:
The C.O.P.E.n Climbing Assistant Director aids the C.O.P.E./Climbing Director in teaching the Climbing merit badge and Project C.O.P.E. skills to all participants, along with supervising the C.O.P.E./Climbing staff. Specific responsibilities include:

1. Aid the C.O.P.E./Climbing director in the supervision and motivation of the C.O.P.E./Climbing staff in all their activities.
2. As assigned, aid the C.O.P.E./Climbing Director in the training of the C.O.P.E./Climbing staff in all their activities.
3. Assume full direction of the C.O.P.E./Climbing area in the absence of the C.O.P.E./Climbing Director, unless otherwise directed.
4. Maintain the high standards of safety and programs set forth in the C.O.P.E. guidebook, Climb On, and training.
5. Offer a quality C.O.P.E./Climbing program the include the Climbing Merit Badge and the Project C.O.P.E. program.
6. Assist in the set-up and take-down of the climbing tower, C.O.P.E. course, and Aerial Adventure Park under the strict adherence to all National Standards regarding Project C.O.P.E. and climbing facilities.
7. Assist the C.O.P.E./Climbing Director in the maintenance, inventory, security, safety, and wise use of all C.O.P.E./Climbing equipment used in the C.O.P.E./Climbing area.
8. Maintain a strict discipline at all times when campers, leaders, and other staff are in the area.
9. Participate in all camp-wide activities.
10. Assist in the set-up and take-down of all camp facilities.
11. All other duties as assigned.

*Level I Instructor C.O.P.E. certification will occur during staff week, taught by the C.O.P.E./Climbing Director.
