Requirements for hire: Must be in good standing with the Boy Scouts of America, Conquistador Council, and Wehinahpay Mountain Camp.
Preferences for hire: Extensive experience with techniques used in handicraft activities i.e. leatherworking tools and techniques, art, sculpture, and woodworking.
Specific responsibilities:
The handicraft director will have skills and various handicrafts, knowledge of and be able to instruct campers in the handicrafts merit badges and other programs offered in the program area. Specific responsibilities include:
1. Supervise, train, and motivate the handicraft staff in all of their activities.
2. Offer a quality handicraft program which may include Art, Basketry, Indian Lore, Leatherwork, Sculpture, and Woodcarving merit badges and other camp programs as staff allows.
3. Direct the set-up and take-down of a quality Handicraft Area.
4. Maintenance, inventory, security, safety, and wise use of all Handicraft Area equipment.
5. Represent the Handicraft Area at all area director meetings.
6. Participate in all camp-wide activities as assigned.
7. Make a written advancement report on all Handicraft Area activities at the end of each week.
8. Conduct program staff evaluations of Handicraft Staff as requested and submit a written report on the work of each of the staff at the close of the camp season.
9. Submit a complete inventory of all Handicraft Area equipment, including conditions and recommendations for next year’s supplies.
10. Assist in the set-up and take-down of all camp facilities.
11. All other duties as assigned.
