Objective: to develop and carry out a quality shotgun program for campers while maintaining high standards of safety.
Requirements for hire: Must be in compliance with the Boy Scouts of America’s National Camp Accreditation program Standard SQ-407 or is otherwise able to become compliant with the requirements before the start of summer camp season.
– NRA instructor certification for shotgun.
– NRA range safety officer RSO certification.
Must be in good standing with the Boy Scouts of America, Conquistador Council, and Wehinahpay Mountain Camp.
Preferences for hire: extensive knowledge and experience in the safe use and education of shotguns and firearms.
Specific responsibilities: the Shooting Sports Assistant Director – Shotgun will exhibit proficiency and safety in the use of shotguns and firearms. Specific responsibilities include:
1. Aid the Shooting Sports Director in the supervision and motivation of the shooting sports staff assigned to the shotgun range.
2. As assigned, aid the Shooting Sports Director in the training of the Shooting Sports staff in all of their activities pertaining to the shotgun range.
3. Assume full direction of the Shooting Sports in the absence of the Shooting Sports Director, unless otherwise directed.
4. Be familiar with and lead the strict observation of all safety rules and policies for the shotgun areas.
5. Offer a quality shotgun program which may include the Shotgun Merit Badge, Cowboy Action Shooting, and open shoot.
6. Assist in the set-up and take-down of a quality shotgun range.
7. Assist the Shooting Sports Director in the maintenance, inventory, security, safety, and wise use of all Shooting Sports Area equipment used in the Shooting Sports Area.
8. Maintain a strict discipline at all times when campers, leaders, and other staff are in the area.
9. Participate in all camp-wide activities
10. Assist in the set-up and take-down of all camp facilities.
11. All other duties as assigned.
