Requirements for hire: Must be in compliance with the Boy Scouts of America’s National Camp Accreditation Program standard SQ-407 or is otherwise able to become compliant with the requirements before the start of the summer camp season.
– Holds a valid certificate of training from the Shooting Sports section of National Camping School, unless as noted below.
– current NCS and NRA instructor credentials in each firearm discipline (rifle [including BBs], shotgun, muzzle loading*, and pistol*) offered at the camp.
Must be in good standing with the Boy Scouts of America, Conquistador Council, and Wehinahpay Mountain Camp.
Preferences for hire: Extensive knowledge and experience in the safe use and education of firearms.
Specific Responsibilities:
1. Supervise, train, and motivate the Shooting Sports Staff in their activities.
2. offer a quality shooting sports program to include merit badges, sporting arrows, and Cowboy Action Shooting.
3. Direct the set-up and take-down of a quality shooting sports area.
4. Maintenance, inventory, security, safety, and wise use of all shooting sports equipment. This includes regular testing in accordance with BSA policy of trigger pull weight. Further, direction of the regular cleaning and maintenance as necessary of the camp’s firearms used in the program.
5. Maintain a strict discipline at all times when campers, leaders, and other staff are in the area.
6. Represent the Shooting Sports Area at all area director meetings.
7. Participate in all camp-wide activities as assigned.
8. Make a written advancement report on all shooting sports activities at the end of each week.
9. Conduct program staff evaluations for shooting sports staff as requested and submit a written report on the work of each of the staff at the close of the camp season.
10. Submit a complete inventory of all shooting sports equipment, including condition and recommendation for next year’s supplies.
11. Assist in the set-up and take-down of all camp facilities.
12. All other duties as assigned.
*These programs may be offered should certification, staffing, and time be present.
