Job Description: Backpacking Guide
Essential Functions:
- The Backpacking Guide reports directly to the High Adventure Director.
- The Backpacking Guide must be at least 18 years old, have backpacking experience, and have the physical capabilities to hike mountain terrain and carry at least 40 pounds.
- The Backpacking Guide must have Wilderness First Aid/CPR or higher certification. Camp Daniel Boone will provide this training if needed.
Principle Responsibilities:
- Ensure the safety of youth and adult backpacking participants, following backcountry emergency action plan protocols if necessary.
- Supervise and Guide youth and adult participants on 4-day treks in backcountry areas of Western North Carolina.
- Lead Gear Shakedowns prior to departing for trek, assisting with food portioning, group gear disbursement and repacking.
- Communicate with the High Adventure Director and/or Camp Director via satellite SpotX devices with group check-ins.
- Facilitate an exciting and engaging backcountry experience for participants.
- Other Duties as Assigned.
Weekly Compensation is based on the applicant’s prior experience and position responsibilities. The Base Salary for the Backpacking Guide position is: $450/week.
