Various Summer Camp Positions

Rodney Scout Reservation and Henson Scout Reservation serve 3,000+ Scouts BSA youth and leaders each summer over six camper weeks and four camp weeks respectively. Scouts attending are from primarily Delaware, Virginia, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Scouts have also come from as far as West Virginia, Ohio, Florida, and Georgia!

The season starts early to mid June depending on the position and runs through early August. Work weeks generally last from Sunday noon to Saturday noon, with one night off during the week, and Saturday into Sunday off after participant departure.

Positions Available in:

Handicraft, NEST (Nature, Ecology, Science, Technology), Brownsea (First Year Camper), Climbing, Range and Target Activities, Aquatics, Health & Fitness, Scoutcraft, Trading Post, Health Office, Commissioner Service, Camp Leadership

Essential Functions:

Must be at least 14 years of age.
Must be a registered member of Scouting America, or willing to become registered.
Willing to complete a variety of Scouting America trainings (including but not limited to Safeguarding Youth Training and Hazardous Weather).
Specific Responsibilities:

  • Under the supervision of an Area Director, run program area activities in an exciting and passionate manner. This may include Merit Badges, rank advancement requirements, or other awards in addition to general activities.
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of lesson and activity plans for all activities that are assigned. Lesson and activity plans should be easy to comprehend and cover any necessary requirements.
  • At Scouts BSA camp, maintain accurate attendance and requirement records for Merit Badges and other relevant programs and provide these records to the Area Director.
  • Maintain strict discipline at all times when campers, leaders, and other staff are in the area.
  • Assist in the proper care, storage, and maintenance of all program and camp equipment.
  • Inform the Area Director of any program supply needs.
  • Assist in the set-up and take-down of all program areas and campsite facilities.
  • Under the direction of the Camp Commissioner, act as a Site Guide for a unit. Help introduce them to camp, answer questions, and be a liaison between the unit and the Commissioners throughout their week to help them have a successful week in their campsite.
  • Exemplify the Scout Oath and Law. Support Scouting America policies and the Aims and Methods of Scouting. Strive to provide a program that is exciting, dynamic and appealing to today’s youth; that meets the needs of the youth and the units attending camp; and that is fun and safe.
  • Support and participate in area and camp wide programs, as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Area Director, Program Director, or Camp Director.
