Commissary Director

Medicine Mountain Scout Ranch is hiring a Commissary Director for the 2024 Summer Camp Season. Ideal candidate will be at least 18 years old and have some experience in food service and will be required to take a safe food handlers course. The ServSafe course will be paid for by the council if the person hired does not already have that certification.

JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Report directly to the Business Manager.  In the absence of the Business Manager, responsible to the Camp Director.
  • Follow and maintain the policies of the Black Hills Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, and local, state, and federal laws.
  • Train and supervise the Commissary Staff.
  • Assist in the preparation of and issuing of food to the troops per their selected menu.
  • Help with all Commissary tasks as needed.
  • Responsible for the proper health and sanitation of food services.
  • Issue food for the Camp Cook in compliance with a menu which has been approved by a dietitian.
  • Maintain an inventory of all food and commissary supplies and update the inventory at least once a week.  A complete weekly inventory will be handed to the Business Manager each Saturday.
  • Weekly, submit a written inventory of Commissary supplies and food to the camp cook.  With the camp cook, work out a schedule for ordering to ensure adequate food and supplies at all times.
  • Work with the Program Director on receiving and filling the program area commissary needs.
  • Fill and price all Program Food Requisition orders received.  Daily, turn all completed requisitions back to the Camp Business Manager or Assistant Business Manager.
  • Assist in checking in all vendor food and commissary orders and update inventory.   Turn all original invoices in to the Camp Director.
  • Complete an opening and closing inventory with cost prices, item size, vendor etc., and forward a copy to the Council Accounting Manager.
  • Submit a written report at the close of camp that includes a complete, accurate inventory and evaluation of all commissary staff members, along with suggestions for improving next year’s program.
  • Participate in camp-wide events.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Camp Business Manager and Camp Director.
