Climbing Director

Position Overview

Since 1910, Scouting has helped mold the future leaders of this country by combing educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The Boy Scouts of America believes and understands that helping youth puts us on a path toward a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society.

Our Climbing Director is responsible for all operations of our 38′ climbing tower, including maintaining equipment, following safety standards, and instructing Scouts in proper climbing techniques.

Today’s summer camp staff are a diverse group of men and women sharing a dynamic career offering independence, achievement, and stability. This is a seasonal position (mid-June to mid-August).



– Lead daily operations at our climbing tower and zipline.
– Oversee multiple staff and work with other area directors.
– Learn and be knowledgeable of all safety standards and procedures.
– Operate standard climbing equipment safely and efficiently.
– Adhere to all sanitation guidelines.
– Clean and maintain the climbing tower, equipment, and gear.
– Providing guidance, motivation, and support to all camp visitors.
– Communicate with unit leaders, Scouts, visitors, and staff.

– Maintain high standards for personal appearance and hygiene.
– Attend all meals and camp-wide activities unless excused by the Program Director.
– Obey and enforce all applicable policies, practices, and procedures approved by the New Birth of Freedom Council and the Boy Scouts of America.
– Know, understand, and implement emergency action plans when needed.
– Relay any issues that could impact the safe and successful operation of the camp to the Area Director immediately.
– Exemplify all aspects of the Scout Oath and Law and serve as a role model for staff and Scouts.
– Complete all other duties as assigned by the Camp Director.


Desired Skills

– High moral character and leadership ability.
– Working knowledge of Cub Scout and Scouts BSA programs.
– Familiarity with Camp Tuckahoe facilities and traditions.
– Auditory and oral abilities to effectively communicate.
– Physical ability to participate in and instruct climbing skills.
– Previous knowledge or passion for climbing



– Must be willing to accept and meet the Boy Scouts of America’s leadership and membership standards and subscribe to the Scout Oath and Law.
– 21 years of age or older.
– National Camping School: Climbing Director Certification (training provided)
– Offers for employment are subject to criminal, reference, and motor vehicle background checks.
