The Aquatics Director for Camp Turrell is responsible for the activities that happen on the lake at camp. They make sure that the program is run safely and within any state and BSA guidelines. They make sure that a quality staff is trained and prepared to deliver a high-quality program.
Required Qualifications and Competencies:
- 21 years of age at the start of employment.
- Be a current BSA Aquatics Instructor from a National Camping School or be able to successfully complete that training prior to the start of camp.
- Currently certified as a BSA Lifeguard, American Red Cross Lifeguard or equivalent.
- Currently trained in American Red Cross First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care
- Providers or be able to successfully complete training prior to the start of camp.
- Must be or become a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America.
- This position requires residing at camp during the camping season on working days.
Desired Qualifications and Competencies:
- Experience training and managing a staff.
- Experience working in a camp aquatics program or public pool.
- Certified as an American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
Primary Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Carry yourself and lead your staff to carry themselves in accordance with the Scout Oath and Law.
- Train and manage the staff of Camp Turrell’s Waterfront Staff.
- Ensure your program area is ready with materials and staff to operate safely and on time for Scouts and Scouters.
- Work with Camp Director and Camp Ranger to ensure all aquatics facilities meet all applicable BSA and state standards.
- Be able to work outside and in the sun for long periods of time.
- Be able to carry and handle 50 lbs.
- Present yourself and staff to campers and leaders in proper uniform.
- Other duties as assigned by camp leadership and the NNJC Council of the BSA.
Report to camp June 23rd (for Staff Week Training) and Camp ends August 3rd. Housing is provided, 3 meals a day each week from Sunday Lunch – Saturday Breakfast.
