Job Title: Range and Target Activities Director (Seasonal)
Location: Camp Whitsett – Sequoia National Forest, CA
Seasonal Dates: June 11 – July 27
Compensation: ~$370 per week, plus room and board
Position Overview:
Camp Whitsett is seeking an enthusiastic and responsible Range and Target Activities Director to lead and oversee all shooting sports and target-based programs during our summer camp season. This is a seasonal, residential position based in the scenic Sequoia National Forest.
The Director will manage and coordinate activities such as rifle, shotgun, BB shooting, archery, and tomahawk throwing, ensuring the highest standards of safety, instruction, and fun for all campers and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee daily operations of all range and target-based activity areas.
Ensure compliance with BSA, NRA, and camp safety standards and protocols.
Maintain and inventory all equipment, including firearms, bows, and safety gear.
Supervise and train a team of range staff and instructors.
Lead engaging, educational instruction for youth participants.
Manage safety briefings and emergency response procedures for the range.
Coordinate with the Camp Program Director to align with overall camp scheduling and goals.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants.
Qualifications:
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Experience in shooting sports, archery, or similar target-based activities.
Current certifications in relevant safety or instructional programs (e.g., NRA, BSA Shooting Sports Director NCS) preferred—or willingness to obtain.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Previous experience in a camp, scouting, or youth leadership setting preferred.
Ability to live and work in a rustic, outdoor environment for the duration of the season.
